BEGINNING JEWELRY

Beginning Jewelry  

 

This class is in person for 7 weeks, 3 hours/week.  

If you do not live in Phoenix or can not participate in person, you can visit our online classes.

Class Cost:  $260 plus materials.  Materials are approximately $200-$250

​

Maximum of 8 students.​

 

This beginning level jewelry class will provide a solid foundation of metal, tools, techniques, and safety.  We will make approximately 3-4 pieces of jewelry over the 7 weeks with the final project being a cabochon ring. Design ideas will be provided or students are free to create their own. The pictures above are a sample of jewelry made using techniques taught in this class.

 

The schedule is:

Week 1: Sawing/Piercing/Filing

Week 2: Annealing/Stamping/Textures/Hydraulic Press/Sanding

Week 3: Pendant or keychain. Sweat soldering sheet metal. Learn about gas, ventilation, equipment, and process.

Week 4: Soldered wire earrings. Pick soldering and ear wires.

Week 5: Spinner Ring. Learn to use the rolling mill to apply textures, ring sizing and forming.

Week 6: Cabochon Ring. Learn to form bezel and set a cabochon.

Week 7: Project completion. This week is used to finish up projects from class with the instructor available for help.

You will receive a manual with all of the techniques and step by step instructions to go along with the class.

10 hours of studio time are provided with this class. Studio time must be used within 90 days of the last class.

PREREQUISITE: None

Please Note: Beginning Jewelry covers the fundamentals of metalsmithing.  Each class builds on the week before so missing a class can be challenging.  In particular, missing week 3 which covers the soldering foundation will set you behind.  Your options to make up a class are: 

1.  make it up with another beginning jewelry class, although you may have to wait for awhile depending on the schedule.

2.  schedule and pay for an hour private lesson.

Beginning Jewelry-Weekend Intensive     

2 day, beginning level class      

$360 +materials, 6 students maximum per class

This class is usually held on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm.

​

Please be aware that the pace of this class moves very quickly.

​

This beginning level jewelry class will provide a solid foundation of metal, tools, techniques, and safety.  Each student will explore, experiment and develop basic jewelry making skills. We will make approximately 3 pieces of jewelry over the 2 day class using the techniques taught in the class. You will receive 30 days of unlimited studio time after the class has finished.

*piercing         *texturing         *stamping         *ring sizing and making

*filing              *soldering         *patinas            *making ear wires

*forming         *rolling mill techniques

​

Design ideas will be provided or you can use your own designs.  We will make a spinner ring as the final project.  The pictures below are samples of jewelry made using the techniques that will be taught in beginning jewelry.
